Sea Lions Class: Exploring the Zones of Regulation
As we come to the end of a busy and productive term, the Sea Lions children can feel proud of all they have achieved. Over the term, the children settled confidently into their routines and warmly welcomed eight new friends from Children’s House. It has been wonderful to see such kindness and cooperation in our classroom.
We explored the Zones of Regulation, a framework that helps children recognise and manage their emotions. Using colour-coded zones, with blue for low-energy feelings like sadness or tiredness, green for calm and focused states, yellow for heightened alertness such as frustration or excitement, and red for intense emotions like anger or anxiety, the children learned to identify how they are feeling and choose strategies to regulate their behaviour. This work supports emotional literacy and self-awareness, giving children tools to engage in their learning with confidence.
Story writing was another highlight, with the children using their creativity to develop imaginative characters, settings, and plots. They enjoyed sharing their stories and listening to one another.
We wish all our Sea Lions families a restful and happy holiday and look forward to another wonderful term ahead!
