Harmony Day at Rockingham

Thursday 19th March was Harmony Day at our Rockingham site. The children were encouraged to wear their families’ cultural dress or the colour orange. We started our day with our whole community gathering in a large circle. The classes took turns parading and proudly showing items from their country of origin. Once back in class, each child had an opportunity to talk about their outfit and share information about their heritage.

Lunch was a wonderful time to gather together and enjoy a multicultural meal. Each child brought a dish, and we sat and ate together as a whole community. Grace and courtesy skills were on display, and they all waited beautifully for their turn to come up and choose some delicious food.

Harmony Day is a perfect time to think about Montessori Peace Education. It is an integral part of our method and teaches children empathy, conflict resolution, and how social responsibility fosters a peaceful society.

The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind
