Work and Study Program: Inquiry, Discovery and Real‑World Learning
At West Coast Montessori, the Work and Study Program embodies the Montessori philosophy of engaging both the head (intellectual work) and the hand (practical work) to cultivate deep understanding, personal growth, and authentic discovery. Students are encouraged to follow their interests, investigate meaningful questions, and share their learning with others through purposeful work.
This term, each Middle School Advisory group is exploring a unique area of inquiry:
Manyin Advisory – “Survival of the Adapted”
Students in the Manyin Advisory are examining how different organisms have adapted over time to survive and thrive. Their investigations consider biological, behavioural, and cultural adaptations, exploring how these changes have influenced life on Earth and shaped the world we know today.
Bamba Advisory – “Me in History”
The Bamba Advisory is looking inward as they explore the significant historical events that have occurred within their own lifetimes. Through this reflective program, students are considering how these events have impacted their lives, communities, and perspectives.
Maarmong Advisory – Building a Better Community
Focusing on positive action, the Maarmong Advisory is exploring ways to improve their school community. Their initiatives include cooking for others, developing a school community garden, babysitting, and supporting K‑9 rescue. Through hands-on service, students are discovering the many ways they can contribute meaningfully to those around them.
These programs highlight the richness of Montessori learning, giving students ownership over their inquiry while connecting their studies to the real world.
