Upper Primary - Week 4 Term 1 2026
The First Big Story
At our Montessori school, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Over the past four weeks, our Upper Primary students have been exploring, doing science experiments, and connecting with the community in some wonderful ways.
Here is an update from one of our students about what they’ve been up to:
“The past 4 weeks have been a blast this term. We listened to the first big story, hence the title. My favourite part was when the tornado in a bottle was passed around, it was quite fun. Next, we did a science experiment with an egg. We put it in vinegar and left it there for a week and it turned bouncy like a handball, wow!
We’ve also been visiting the nursing home. Seeing elderly people was quite fun, talking to them, learning about their past, and playing games with them, like keepy-uppy and lawn ball or carpet ball, I guess. It’s been a few fun weeks with new kids coming to class and visiting places. I’m looking forward to the rest of the term and what we will do next.”

These experiences reflect the heart of Montessori education – hands-on learning, curiosity, and meaningful connections with the world around us. Visiting the nursing home allows our students to practice empathy, communication, and cooperation, while classroom science experiments encourage independent exploration and critical thinking.
