The Montessoirée; Celebrating Maria Montessori’s 156th birthday

On 28 August, our West Coast Montessori community came together at our Adolescent Program for the 2026 Montessoirée, an evening filled with stalls, food, talent, and plenty of community spirit. Planned and organised over several months alongside our Community Spirit parent group, the event was a wonderful opportunity for students, families and community members to share their talents and creations with one another.

A special part of the evening was the Montessoirée Sip & Nibble Café, where our students welcomed patrons with freshly prepared mocktails and a buffet dinner. It was another wonderful example of students taking an active role in creating and contributing to the event.

One of our students, Elliot, has shared their reflections on the evening below. From the busy market stalls to the talent show and the celebration of Maria Montessori’s birthday, here’s their take on what made this year’s Montessoirée such a memorable night.

The 2026 Montessoirée Has Arrived!

After months of planning and organising, the event was finally here and delivered fun and joy to everyone who attended.

Taking place at the West Coast Montessori Adolescent Program on the 28th of August, many vendors came prepared with their amazing stalls to sell and give to others. From plants and brownies to kitchenware and accessories, there was positive energy moving all over the place. But that’s not all.

Some of our students engaged in the talent show. All of their beautiful songs, magic tricks and dance moves were marvelous and delivered powerful notes to us.

Another thing that’s worthy to note is Maria Montessori’s birthday. She turns 156 this year. I’m sure she would be proud of how far Montessori education has come. Happy birthday Maria!

Huge shoutout to the Montessoirée event crew involved in the preparation of the event. Another shoutout to everyone who attended and opened their stall for people to purchase new items. It was truly a wonderful experience for all!
