Starfish Class Commemorate ANZAC Day
For ANZAC Day, the Starfish children listened to the story Anzac Ted, a touching tale about a teddy bear who went to war with his owner, Jack. Through this gentle story, the children explored how Anzac Ted brought comfort to a soldier while learning about courage, strength, resilience, and the importance of remembering the ANZAC spirit.
Regan shared that her great-granddad was a soldier in World War I. She kindly brought in his medals, letters from nurses, and telegram notices, helping the children understand how soldiers and their families communicated during wartime, especially when a soldier was injured or had died. She also shared photographs of her great-grandfather’s memorial tomb in France, which she discovered during her visit there.
These moments were truly special for us all. Seeing family photographs, handwritten telegrams, letters from nurses, and the medals gave everyone a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices made by many soldiers. It also reminded us of the importance of peace. The children learned that communicating kindly and resolving conflict peacefully helps create a harmonious world for everyone to share.
