Shark Bay Odyssey Updates

5 June 2026

Our Senior Students have officially set off on their 2026 Odyssey to Shark Bay!

Over the next eight days, they will travel together through some of Western Australia's most remarkable landscapes, taking part in environmental conservation activities, marine experiences, and opportunities for personal growth and reflection.

Odyssey is an important milestone in the Adolescent Program, providing students with the chance to strengthen community connections, challenge themselves, develop independence, and set goals for the year ahead.

We wish them safe travels, meaningful experiences, and plenty of unforgettable memories. We can't wait to follow their journey!

Students continue to develop resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in their ongoing negotiations with the local emu population. The emus remain highly confident, extremely persistent, and suspiciously interested in packed lunches. At this stage, it's unclear who's winning. Stay tuned for further developments.

With emu negotiations temporarily stable, students turned their attention to the marine residents of Shark Bay.

Highlights included the Monkey Mia dolphin feeding and a cruise aboard the Aristocat II, where students spotted green turtles, dugongs, and an osprey nest on a local pearling barge.

The group also learned from marine experts about the vulnerability of the Shark Bay ecosystem and the importance of seagrass conservation.

Over the past couple of days, our Senior students have been involved in seagrass planting as part of their conservation work in the Shark Bay region.

Students filled sandbags and collected over 500 seagrass seedlings, which were then used as part of the planting process. This work supports ongoing efforts to restore and strengthen local marine habitats and highlights the importance of seagrass ecosystems in maintaining the health of the Shark Bay environment.

It has been a hands-on few days, and a huge effort from the group. We are proud of their hard work and the way they have approached this part of the program.
