Deadly Jobs Expo

Here is an article written by one of our students about their experience at the Deadly Jobs Expo.

"The Deadly Jobs Expo was a wonderful and educational experience for various students from the Montessori Adolescent Program who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander individuals. Around six students went on the school bus, along with a school Wellbeing Officer, Stella, and EA, Kaitlynn, on the 20th of October. There were around a couple of hundred people, who included employers, other students from multiple schools, and students seeking exposure to opportunities available at Challenger TAFE in Rockingham. The Expo began with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony, helping to bring people together and cleanse people and places of bad spirits.

Afterwards, employers went to their stalls while everyone else went to see the opportunities out there. There were roughly 100 stalls, educating people about careers in health, defence, mining, TAFE courses, FIFO work and so much more. Many stalls had free branded items, and there was a free sausage sizzle. The Montessori students were introduced to pathways into traineeships, internship opportunities and training providers, helping to build a foundation for future endeavours."
