Creating 3D Recycled Christmas Trees
This 2025 Christmas season, our Adolescent Program students brought creativity and sustainability together in a hands-on project to design and build three-dimensional Christmas trees made entirely from recyclable materials. Each tree is one-of-a-kind—reflecting the individuality and imagination of its creator.
The project’s goal was to engage students in a creative process that integrated geometry, environmental awareness, and artistic expression. As they planned, measured, and constructed their trees, students applied mathematical thinking to bring their unique visions to life while considering how to reduce waste through reuse and recycling.
Montessori Values in Action
Independence: Each student selected their own materials and developed a personal design, taking ownership of both process and outcome.
Creativity: From abstract designs to traditional shapes, every tree showcased originality and artistic expression—many even received imaginative names!
Environmental Awareness: By reimagining discarded materials as art, students deepened their understanding of sustainability and the impact of thoughtful choices.
Mathematical Thinking: Measuring angles, calculating proportions, and visualizing three-dimensional forms connected geometry to real-world design.
Responsibility: Students practiced time management and accountability by tracking their progress and meeting project deadlines.
The beautiful, completed projects reveal a blend of creativity, problem-solving, and craftsmanship, with every tree standing out in its own way.
