AP visits Perth Film Studio

Last week, a group of our Adolescent Program students had the opportunity to visit the new Perth Film Studio and get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in the film industry.

It was a great chance for our students to explore the studio, learn more about the different career pathways available in film and television, see some working sets, and hear directly from people already working in the industry. They also had the opportunity to ask questions, collect information about different courses and pathways, and get a better idea of the many different roles involved in making films and television.

Here’s what one of our students, Charlotte, had to say about the experience:

“One of the first things we did at the Perth Film Studio was look around the expo, where there were a lot of different booths advertising courses for all types of film industry jobs. You could ask them for information and take pamphlets home to read about it.

Then we went into a studio where we had headphones which we could change the channel on to hear different people talking about the different scenes they were shooting. I loved seeing the set for Two Birds, where we got to walk around inside the police station and other settings. It will be cool to see the show when it comes out and say that I was there.

The last thing was the panel discussion, where two actors from a movie called Whale Shark Jack interviewed filmmakers and academics about how they got into the industry and gave tips for us who want to get into film.

I talked to one of the people at the TAFE booth about my experience at the Speciality Make-Up Career Taster I did this year and how I want to come back to complete the course in Senior School.

I enjoyed getting free items (including a Spider-Man poster) from the booths and learning about different courses I could take.”
